Homeowner fatally shot while answering door

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A man is dead after he was shot at his front door on the south side of Houston last night.

It happened around 9:45pm at a home on Groton near Cullen. Investigators tell us there was a knock at the door and when the 32-year-old homeowner went to ask who was there, the suspect fired six rounds into the front door.

"Patrol got here and found the homeowner collapsed inside," said Officer Mark Condon with the Houston Police Department homicide division. "He had been shot inside."

The victim was taken to the hospital, where he died. The victim's wife and children, ages 2, 9 and 16, were inside the home at the time of the shooting, but were not hurt.

The suspect was able to get away. Police are not discussing a motive at this time, but are asking anyone with any information in this case to contact them.
