DNA leads to suspect in 2003 murder

Joel Guadalupe Sanchez Joel Guadalupe Sanchez, 33, has been charged with murder. Sanchez is currently incarcerated on a previous conviction.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Authorities believe they finally have a break in an eight-year-old murder case.

In January 2003, a woman's body was found bound and dumped in a wooded area in northwest Harris County. A man flying a remote control airplane in the area discovered the body, which appeared to have been there for a few days.

An autopsy identified the woman as Sandra Rochelle Williams, and determined she had died of blunt force trauma. A sledgehammer had been found at the scene near her body.

DNA samples were taken during the autopsy and submitted to a national crime DNA database. In November 2010, a DNA match was discovered, according to court documents.

Joel Guadalupe Sanchez, 33, has been charged with murder. Sanchez is currently incarcerated on a previous conviction.
