HCSO: Speed, alcohol tied to fatal accident

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Harris County Sheriff's Office investigators believe speed and alcohol played roles a fatal accident early Sunday.

The accident happened around 2:15am Sunday on U.S. 290 inbound at Fairfield Place.

According to HCSO, a silver pickup truck was traveling east at a high rate of speed.

The pickup rear-ended a sports utility vehicle that was driving in the same lane, officials said.

The driver veered to the right after hitting the SUV, going into the grassy embankment. The truck rolled several times and landed upside-down on the feeder road.

Investigators said the driver of the truck was ejected as it was rolling. He was taken by LifeFlight to Memorial Hermann Hospital in critical condition where he later died.

The driver of the SUV was not injured.
