HPD: Parents in club while kids asleep in vehicle

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A mother and father are facing child endangerment charges and a local rapper is under arrest after a wild night at a Washington area nightclub.

It all happened around 2am at the Nox Bar on Nett near Parker in the Heights area.

Police say a group was fighting in the parking lot, but they were eventually allowed into the club.

Police went outside to investigate and discovered a weapon and ski mask in the back of one car. They went inside to tell the bar owner and to pull that group out of the club. In the process, they discovered yet another weapon.

While investigating, police also found two small children sleeping in the back of another car, seeming left alone as their parents were in the club.

"We located a 3-year-old and 5-year-old and they were sleeping the entire time," said Sgt. MT Ferguson with the Houston Police Department. "Both parents are in custody."

"Anything could have happened. Something could have happened to those kids," said club-goer Allen Bethea. "They could have gotten out the car on their own."

The parents in custody are facing charges of child endangerment. The officers brought food for the children, who woke up and were hungry, while they called welfare authorities.

The local rapper will be charged with possession of a weapon.

Woman accused of trying to run over her ex-boyfriend with her vehicle

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A woman is accused of throwing a brick through her ex-boyfriend's windows and trying to run him over with her vehicle.

Sade Perry, 26, is charged with aggravated assault of a family member and criminal mischief. According to court documents, on the morning of September 8 Perry went to the home of her ex-boyfriend and started banging on the front door. The man told authorities that he answered the door but Perry was belligerent so he shut the door.

The man told investigators he left his home a short time later, then received a phone call from a neighbor that two of his front windows had been broken by Perry. He returned home and saw the two broken windows and a brick lying inside his house.

Court documents state the man was walking back from his neighbor's house when Perry, traveling at a high rate of speed in her vehicle, tried to strike him, but he jumped out of the way. The man told police that Perry got out of her vehicle and chased him with a can of mace, but couldn't catch him.

Police say Perry then drove back to her ex's house and got out of her vehicle with a golf club. The man said by the time he got to the house, two more of his windows were broken.

Clear Lake mom accused of leaving baby alone in vehicle while going into bar

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A local woman has been charged with child endangerment after officials say she left her three-month-old child in a car so she could go drinking.

It was 3:30am Sunday, when Amy Cooney, 31, was allegedly inside a bar on Houston's south side and her three-month-old baby boy was in her black SUV parked outside.

Neighbor Pat Coleman said, "I can't believe Amy left her baby in the car, because grandma... She's got a good mother, and grandmother was good, so it must be an accident."

Coleman lives across the street from Cooney and her family and can't believe the young woman she watched grow up, who features her children on her Facebook page, is charged with child endangerment.

We tried to talk to Cooney's mom about what happened, but she didn't want to comment.

According to court records, Cooney was in line in the bathroom at the bar when she told another patron that her baby was in the car. That's when that customer asked to see the baby, leading Cooney to the car, where the patron grabbed the baby and turned him over to authorities.

Prosecutors told the court, "The defendant left her three-month-old child in the car, went inside the club. It's unknown how long the child was in the car before authorities were alerted."

For now, Cooney remains in jail, having not yet posted bond, while neighbors remain in disbelief.

"I just can't believe it, I really can't," Coleman said. "I'd go to court to say that, I can't believe it."

Cooney faces a felony charge of child endangerment.

Chase suspect rolls SUV with kids in vehicle

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Police arrested a father after that man led them on a chase last night in southeast Houston, even reportedly firing shots at a deputy. His two kids were in the back seat as this was all going on.

It started just before 9pm at an apartment complex on Blackhawk, several miles away from where it would end, along the Gulf Freeway and Clear Lake City Boulevard.

Investigators say a husband and wife were fighting. The wife went to a friend's house, but was still feeling threatened by the husband and called for help.

When police approached the husband, they say he took off in his SUV with his three- and seven-year-old children inside. Deputies tried to get him to pull over, but instead they say he drove at the deputy and even fired at him.

That turned into a pursuit down the Gulf Freeway. Deputies say he was on the phone the whole time, threatening his wife.

The suspect managed to get away, but his vehicle was spotted a short time later.

"We were contacted about 20 minutes later that Precinct 8 had located the vehicle and was chasing him in the Harris Park subdivision," said Sgt. Z. Guinn with the Harris County Precinct 2 Constable's Office. "That was the location that he flipped the car over. We were mostly concerned that he had a three- and seven-year-old kid with him. The kids are OK and the suspect has been taken into custody."

The children were reunited with family. The suspect is now facing charges.

Woman found shot to death inside vehicle

See it on TV? Check here. HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A puzzling murder near the Galleria area. A woman was found shot to death inside her car near her Galleria area townhome. It appears Houston police still have a lot of unanswered questions.

At age 29, Gelareh Bagherzadeh was looking to the future. A UT Health Science Center student, she was studying molecular technology at MD Anderson Hospital. All that ended with a gunshot through her car window as she was driving through her townhouse complex on Augusta near Candlewood at around midnight.

"I thought two shots, I heard bang, bang. I thought I was dreaming, but evidently I wasn't," said neighbor Steve Markham. "I thought it was fireworks, maybe. But I really thought it was a dream."

Her car kept driving forward, even as she was slumped over the wheel, going through a garage door. By the time police arrived, the tires had rubbed down to the steel tread. Bagherzadeh was pronounced dead.

Police say the last person to hear her voice was her former boyfriend, now said to be her best friend, who was talking to her on her cell phone when it happened.

"Hon-hon, cause that's what she called him, and then he heard a loud thud. He doesn't recall hearing any gunshots, but a loud thud and then a screeching noise," said Richard Bolton with HPD Homicide.

The friend to whom she was talking did not want to speak publicly, neither did her family as they are understandably in shock.

The mystery is who would do this and why. Nothing of value was taken from her car -- police say the victim's purse and phone were found inside; and why did she turn on a dead-end drive on the opposite side of the complex where she lived?

"We don't know why she ended up back there on the back end; maybe they only lived here for a short time, maybe she's unfamiliar with the property, because from what we understand from friends and relatives is she always parks on the street in front of her townhome," said Bolton.

It's believed that whoever did the shooting was standing outside a car. The screeching that was heard could have been her own car tires.

Police want to talk to her current boyfriend. Investigators have retrieved surveillance tape from security cameras on the townhomes, hoping it will reveal some clues.

4 teens lead police on chase over possible stolen vehicle

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A group of teens trying to avoid police ended up crashing into a squad car instead.

Four young suspects were in police custody Saturday after leading police on a brief chase and then slamming into a deputy's patrol vehicle, officials said.

According to authorities, an off-duty police officer spotted a vehicle he believed was stolen in the parking lot of a Food Town at S. Kirkwood Rd. near Bissonnet St. in the Alief area.

The officer approached the car, which was being driven by a young female. She said her boyfriend was the one who got the car, officials said.

The girl contacted her boyfriend by cell phone and told him that she had a flat tire. When he arrived with his three friends, investigators say they spotted the cops around the car and tried to speed off through the Food Town parking lot.

Just down the road at Kalewood and Herald Square, a Precinct 5 Constable's Office deputy was set up in an effort to cut them off when his patrol vehicle was T-boned by the suspect's car.

The four teens were taken into custody and were being questioned by police Saturday night. The Pct. 5 deputy was not injured in the crash.
