Friendswood woman charged with deadly conduct after alleged drunken rampage

  FRIENDSWOOD, TX (KTRK) -- A Friendswood woman is accused of deadly conduct after allegedly trying to run over her husband with a vehicle.

It happened just before 3pm Thursday in the 1100 block of Eagle Lakes Drive.

Michelle Lee O'Donnell, 40, is charged with deadly conduct-family violence.

According to police, O'Donnell drove over a curb and into her yard that afternoon. She then drove directly toward her husband as he was standing behind his truck in the driveway, placing him in danger of serious bodily injury, officials said.

She reportedly slammed into the back of his truck, but he was able to get out of the way. We're told she also got her vehicle stuck in the grass and then backed out into the street before she drove away. She was allegedly intoxicated at the time, officials said.

When officers arrived, they used the suspect's husband's cell phone to track her current location and a warrant was filed in Galveston County.

Police were called back to the residence around 8am Friday and found O'Donnell leaving the area. Officers stopped her vehicle as it entered League City on F.M. 518 and O'Donnell was taken into custody.

Investigators said they found an open bottle of vodka in the vehicle and an open flask of vodka in her purse.

HCSO: Driver flees after fatally striking woman

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A woman is dead and Harris County Sheriff's Office deputies are looking for the driver that hit and killed her.

According to officials, Andrea Davina Senteno was reportedly standing in the middle of Highway 249 near West Mount Houston just after 6am when she was fatally struck by an eastbound red Ford F-150 pickup truck.

"It's sad. Very sad," local business owner Peter Scott said.

By the time Scott arrived at his nearby barbecue restaurant at 7am, the damage was done.

"I just seen the ambulance and fire department and everything down there," he said. "I already knew what happened. People get hit on this street all the time. It's nothing new."

Two people reported seeing Senteno. The first 911 call came in at 6:04am to report a woman standing in the middle of the roadway. The second call came in at 6:07am to report that a woman had been hit.

The second witness was driving about 1,000 feet behind the striking vehicle when he saw the collision happen. He stopped, called 911 and stayed with the woman until emergency crews arrived. She died at the scene.

"It was dark at the time. The witness can't confirm if she was walking across the road or walking in the road, east or westbound," Anders said.

Investigators are still trying to piece together where Senteno was coming from and where she was going at 6am on a Saturday. She was alone and dressed in house clothes, but we've learned she was possibly the mother of young children.

A young mother herself, Raquel Blaine lives nearby and says people walk on the shoulders of Highway 249 and West Mount Houston all too often. Saturday morning's accident may now change her method of getting around.

"I get nervous because there's no sidewalk," Blaine said. "I mean, sometimes I have to walk, but I never walk down there. And people late at night, they don't watch where they're driving. There's no lights."

Driver died after crashing SUV into ditch

  HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Police are investigating a Christmas morning accident that killed a driver in southeast Houston.

At about 7am, a Chevy Suburban traveling easton Rowe crashed into a ditch at Ballantine, about a mile straight south of Hobby Airport. Two people were in the truck at the time of the wreck.

The male driver died at the scene. His female passenger was injured and taken to an area hospital in unknown condition.

Police say there weren't any witnesses to the crash, and they're hoping to talk to the passenger to determine what happened.

Driver dies after hitting guardrail on Southwest Freeway

  Crystal KobzaHOUSTON (KTRK) -- A driver died overnight after crashing into a guardrail on the Southwest Freeway feeder road.

The southbound feeder road of Highway 59 just before Beltway 8 had been closed for the police investigation of the deadly accident, but it reopened at around 5:15am.

Houston police say at around 2:30am the 37-year-old man drove his car off the exit ramp, through the barricades and ended up on the feeder road.

With the amount of damage to the vehicle and the guardrail, police say it appears the driver was exceeded the posted speed limit of 60 miles per hour.

"We don't have any witnesses who actually saw what happened, but evidence here at the scene indicates that he was about to take the north-south ramp onto Beltway 8 when for some reason, failed to drive in a single lane and struck the guardrail," said Sgt. I Izaguirre with the Houston Police Department.

At this time, police say there are no signs of impairment.

"He was wearing his seatbelt. There is no indication at this time that alcohol was involved. There is no alcohol inside the vehicle, we didn't smell any odor of alcohol," Sgt. Izaguirre said.

No other passengers were in the car with him at the time.

Westbound lanes of South Loop at Telephone Rd reopen hours after fatal accident

  HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Authorities have reopened I-610 South Loop at Telephone Road after a fatal accident involving a child forced crews to shut it down.

The wreck happened around 2pm on the westbound lanes of I-610 South Loop at Telephone Road.

Authorities had shut down all main lanes and the entrance ramp to the highway and expected the closure to last through rush hour as they tended to the scene.

But crews managed to get it cleared sooner and the higwhay was reopened shortly before 5:30pm.

SkyEye HD aerials show an overturned vehicle on the highway. We're told a little girl around the age of 3 was ejected from the vehicle and died, but no details were immediately available about the wreck.

Four suspects arrested after smash-and-grab at Cleveland jewelry store

Four suspects are in custody after a smash-and-grab at this Cleveland jewelry store.

  CLEVELAND, TX (KTRK) -- Four suspects have been arrested after what police are saying was a $20,000 jewelry heist during a smash-and-grab.

It happened early this morning at the Cleveland Jewelers on East Houston Avenue. Police say four men broke into the store and smashed a watch display case. We're told the men stole about 100 watches worth around $20,000.

When officers arrived the suspects sped off, but all four men were arrested after a short chase.

Driver dies after car crashes into tree, bursts into flames

  HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Police say the driver of a Chevy Malibu was killed after the car crash into a tree, split in half and burst into flames.

The wreck happened around 8:45pm off Airport and MLK Boulevard in southeast Houston.

Police say a driver in a Chevy Malibu was going over 100 miles per hour when the car lost control and hit a tree. The impact was so intense that the car actually climbed the tree about 10 feet before falling and bursting into flames.

Police say the car also split in half.

Police say there was a child seat in the car, but they think the driver was alone at the time of the wreck.

Citizens chase, stop robbery suspects after hit-and-run crash

  HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Citizens fed up with crime took the law into their own hands Sunday and chased a vehicle involved in a Harris County hit-and-run crash.

They followed the car to an H-E-B on F.M. 2920 in north Harris County.

Robert Neinast says he saw the car rear-end a truck. He said the driver sped away even though the car's hood had popped open and smoke was coming from the engine.

Neinast and several other drivers chased the car to the grocery store.

Police eventually arrested three people in the car.

Neinast, who was once a volunteer firefighter, says he felt he had to help the public.

"They were also endangering other people going down 2920," Neinast said. "People were getting out of their way because, like I said, the hood was up.The guy was looking through about that much of the windshield trying to drive."

Authorities suspect the two men and one woman in the car were involved in the robberies of a Radio Shack and that same H-E-B store earlier in the day.

Teen shot after fight at SW Houston apartment complex

  Crystal KobzaHOUSTON (KTRK) -- A teenager was shot on a southwest Houston street overnight and then taken to the hospital in his bare feet.

The 16-year-old who was shot is in critical condition this morning at Texas Childrens Hospital. Police say his wounds are very severe and he may not survive.

Police tell us this shooting happened last night at the Little Nell Apartment Homes on West Sam Houston Parkway South near Beechnut just before 9pm. Residents called police after hearing gunshots and when police arrived on scene several shell casings where located along with a pair of shoes. His friends drove him to the hospital and in the rush to get him there they left his shoes behind.

It's not believed the teen lived at the apartment complex and police say they are still looking for the suspects seen leaving after the shooting in a white vehicle. It's unclear how many suspects where involved, but police say an altercation between the 16-year-old and another group of people led to the shooting.

"Some other suspects, he may have gotten into a confrontation with some other suspects in a white car and that's all we know and then fled the scene," said Sgt.Mark Holbrook with the Houston Police Department.

No other description of the suspects was given. Police also say they do not have a motive in the shooting.

There is no word on how many times the teen was shot.

Wrong-way driver killed after slamming into big rig

  HOUSTON (KTRK) -- One man is dead after driving the wrong way on the South Loop and crashing into a big rig Saturday morning.

It happened around 3am near Main Street in southwest Houston.

The driver of an 18-wheeler says a Cadillac Escalade was traveling about 90 mph the wrong way on the South Loop when it clipped her big rig and then slammed into another semi.

The SUV burst into flames and the 36-year-old driver was killed at the scene. No one else was in the vehicle with him.

Police do not believe the drivers of the big rigs were injured. It's unknown if the driver of the SUV was impaired at the time of the crash.

The accident caused the interstate to be shut down for hours while crews cleared the scene. It remains under investigation.

Plane upside down after landing in Brazoria County

  BRAZORIA COUNTY, TX (KTRK) -- A pilot somehow avoided injury after his plane landed upside-down in a field in Brazoria County on Friday.

It happened around 3pm. According to DPS, the pilot reported engine trouble and tried to land the Cessna in a field near Highway 6 and FM 521. The plane flipped after it touched down. The pilot was not injured.

Houston Southwest airport is about two miles to the southwest of where the plane ended up. That may have been from where the pilot took off. We'll continue to follow this story and bring you any new information.

2 young brothers killed after being hit by car

  ALVIN, TX (KTRK) -- A man and two children are dead after a late night accident in Brazoria County.

The two boys were with their father, pushing a disabled vehicle on County Road 144 near Alvin around 11:30pm when a vehicle ran into them.

The case took a strange turn for police when they discovered the man in car had been shot in the head.

As friends and family mourned Saturday, investigators swarmed the area, searching for answers -- anything to explain what happened.

"Nobody knows nothing but the people who were there, and two of them are gone," family friend Pete Villanueva III said.

According to the Brazoria County Sheriff's Office, the Barajas family was driving home when they ran out of gas.

Deputies said 12-year-old David and 11-year-old Caleb helped their father, David Sr., push their truck home.

"Another vehicle came up behind them -- and, of course, this was in the dark, early hours -- and struck the vehicle from behind, striking all three," BCSO Criminal Investigator Dominick Sanders said.

David Jr. died instantly and Caleb died at an area hospital.

Their mother and sister were in the disabled truck at the time. They were not hurt, officials said.

David Sr., was injured and rushed to the hospital. He was recovering Saturday night.

The accident happened just 50 yards away from the family's home.

Deputies arrived at the scene and found the car that hit the Barajas family smashed on the side of the road. Jose Banda, 20, was slumped over in the passenger seat with a gunshot wound to the head.

He later died at an area hospital.

There's no word at this point if that Banda was shot before or after the accident. Investigators found no weapons nearby and they haven't identified any suspects in Banda's death.

"We don't want to jump to any conclusions at this point until we've done a thorough investigation," Sanders said.

Man at large after fatally shooting driver in face

  HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Police say a killer who shot a man in cold blood moments after a heated argument is now on the loose.

The victim was shot in the face around 9:20pm Friday on Joliet near Uvalde in southeast Houston.

Police say the victim and his killer were both inside a truck when they got into an argument.

The victim stopped the truck and got out. That's when witnesses say they could hear the men yelling at each other.

According to investigators, the victim opened the door of the truck and the passenger shot him at least twice. He died at the scene. His name has not been released.

The killer took off in the vehicle, which is described as a black two-door pickup.

Anyone with information on this crime can call Houston police or Crime Stoppers.

Deputies: Kids found near drugs, guns after murder

Jaime Ryan Devita, 33, was arrested for murder, and April Nicole Devita, 30, was arrested and taken to jail for endangering a child.

  CONROE, TX (KTRK) -- A Conroe couple is facing charges after a neighbor was shot to death, and their young children were allegedly found near guns and drugs.

Montgomery County Sheriff's Office deputies were called to a home in the 16900 block of West Hammon, just west of Conroe around 5pm Thursday. Deputies arrived found Marcus "Dale" Fisher, 51, had been shot and killed, reportedly by a neighbor. Jaime Ryan Devita, 33, was arrested at the shooting scene for murder.

Deputies say Fisher arrived on his motorcycle at a nearby residence of Devita to visit friends. Fisher was reportedly confronted in the street by Devita, and during an argument was hit with a fatal shotgun blast to the chest.

Witnesses told deputies that Devita's wife and children had been seen just before the shooting, but now could not be found. When deputies entered the Devitas' home, they found the wife and children hiding. Inside the residence deputies say they discovered an indoor marijuana grow operation and guns within easy reach of the children, ages two and four.

April Nicole Devita, 30, was arrested and taken to jail for endangering a child. The children were released to Children's Protective Services.

The investigation continued into the night by crime scene, homicide and narcotic investigators. Additional charges are possible.

Man fatally stabbed after Texans viewing party

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- The search for suspects after a man is stabbed to death in a neighborhood where a huge Houston Texans watch party was going on.

That stabbing happened Sunday night on the north side. The party was happening in a yellow house in the 4700 block of McEwen near Cavalcade. But once things spilled out into the street, the victim was stabbed two doors down, in front of his own house.

Neighbor Jerry Laramore said, "Every time there's a ball game, there's a lot of people out there."

Laramore says waking up to a lot of noise outside his window during a Texans game, is not unusual. But Sunday night, there was more than noise.

"I heard them fighting," said neighbor Vickie Cruz. "I just heard bottles, slamming bottles. That's what I heard was cracking bottles."

Police say after the Texans game wrapped up, officers got a call for help. They arrived to break up what cops describe as a large street brawl. But before they got to the scene, one man was stabbed. Family rushed him to Ben Taub Hospital, where he later died.

"Oh yeah, I knew him well. He called me uncle," said Laramore. "I'm not really his uncle but he called me uncle. All the kids do."

The victim's name isn't being released until his entire family is notified. His sister told me he was just 20 years old, and the father of a two-year-old baby girl.

"He was a really nice guy," said neighbor Joann Chapa. "I can't believe this happened to him. He never harmed nobody, he never did nothing to nobody."

Cruz just chatted with the young victim on Sunday, and now asks the same question police are working to answer as well.

"When his sister told me this morning I just broke down crying," she recalled. "I said, 'What happened?'"

The suspect is still at large. Police say they are following up on leads, but anyone with information in this case is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.

Driver dead after losing control on SE Houston street

  Police say the man ran off the road, crashed into a fence and then crossed the median and hit a parked vehicle before coming to rest

It happened around 4:30am on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard at Bungalow Lane.

Police said the man was southbound on MLK when he lost control of his pickup truck.

The driver veered to the right and went over a curb and a sidewalk before he hit a fence, police said.

According to investigators, he got back on MLK southbound but then crossed the median and drove into the northbound lanes.

The driver ended up crashing into a Hummer parked in a driveway. He was dead when officers arrived.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. The man's identity has not been released.

Police: Bus driver charged after leaving boy on bus

  HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A bus driver is facing a felony after police say she failed to check her bus for students and subsequently left a 9-year-old boy who had fallen asleep alone on the bus in a northwest Houston parking lot.

Nine-year-old Theo Jones says he's doing just fine now, and he's even back in school. We got a chance to talk to the boy about what happened Wednesday.

Theo says he was scared when he realized he was all alone on his school bus. No students, no bus driver.

"I woke up and there was nobody on the bus. I sat there for a minute and I got off the bus," Theo said.

According to police, it was during the morning bus route Wednesday when Theo fell asleep. The driver then finished her route, returned to the bus lot, parked and left.

Police say around 12:30pm is when Theo woke up and got off the bus, only to be met by a pit bull living behind the gate where the buses are parked.

"The dog was chasing after me and it jumped on me," Theo said.

Mary Martin says her husband heard the boy screaming for help and ran over. She says he was able to help the boy over the fence.

"They threw food at the dog and got the dog's attention while Albert, my husband, put his hands on the gate so the little boy could get on his hands and he could pull him over the gate."

Theo's mother, Meagan Jones, says she was at work when she got the phone call explaining what had happened.

"I was angry at first. I'm relieved that he is OK," she said.

The bus driver, Simona Alcaide, was arrested and charged with endangering a child, a felony charge. According to charging documents, Alcaide failed to check the bus for students before locking the bus and leaving the area.

"It's 30 seconds to check a bus, to walk it before you park it," Meagan Jones said.

HISD says the bus and driver are not employed by the district. Because Theo lives within a two-mile radius of the school, parents pay for a private bus company.

According to neighbors, that pit bull does live behind these gates and was not on the loose. Theo was taken to the hospital to be checked out after this incident. Again, he is OK.

Alcaide's bond has been set at $5,000.

Motorcyclist found dead hours after crash

The motorcycle and rider both went over a wall of a ramp from the Gulf Freeway the South Loop, where he died, obscured from view

  HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A motorcycle rider is dead, but police aren't sure just when he died.

A person walking along the grassy area near the connector ramp of the Gulf Freeway and the South Loop found the body and the motorcycle around 4:45am. Police say the accident scene appeared to be several hours old.

Police say it appears the cycle rider may have been speeding as he took the ramp on to the South Loop and went over the wall. He wasn't wearing a helmet.

The crash was obscured by the wall, so Houston police are asking anyone who may have seen something to contact the vehicular crimes division at 713-247-4077.

The man's identity has not been released.

Man's pet hog deer on loose in Bellaire area after escaping from home

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Something unexpected is on the loose in Bellaire. Police are getting dozens of calls from people who have spotted it.

People there spot wildlife from time to time, but this missing animal is actually someone's pet and it's a little different than what we're typically used to.

The sightings have been along the 6700 block of the East Service Road in Bellaire.

"It's not the kind you see in Texas at all," Dr. Joseph Agris said.

That's blocks from home and the sanctuary Agris owns.

"I'm upset because it's never been outside an enclosed area. It grew up in an enclosed area," Agris said.

The hog deer in his backyard are minus one of their own. Men were working in his backyard when a male jumped a 16-foot fence.

Agris isn't sure if the lost deer is just going rogue or maybe he felt a call to duty.

"Maybe he's out there for Santa; it's Christmas in another month, he's checking things out," he said.

"We get a lot of calls for wildlife, usually not deer though," Bellaire Police Department Chief Byron Holloway said.

Bellaire police have tried to capture it.

"While your police department may be fast, can you catch this deer?" we asked Holloway.

"Well the deer can outrun most of our officers. We only have one marathon officer here and he's a bailiff in the courts," he said.

The missing pet looks much different than the deer we are used to seeing here in Texas.

"They're pet quality, and they're not much bigger than a big dog," Agris said.

It's native to Central and South America, but Dr. Agris hopes he can just get this one back to his Bellaire home.

"Now it's up to the public to tell us if they see it," Agris said.

Dr. Agris has talked with Lone Star Animal Recovery. If you believe you see his deer, you can call the company for this situation at 713-628-3989. They say don't approach it, as you might scare it off.

Questions raised after differences in school's punishment for teen and boy

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A high school student shot a pellet gun at school and hit a student but remained on campus, and now we're hearing about a 10-year-old boy who was taken to juvenile detention. Because of these two incidents, families have some questions for Cy-Fair ISD when it comes to how it disciplines its students.

The 10-year-old boy's family says he was taken into custody Wednesday at Emmott Elementary School. They're asking whether the school district is equally applying its own zero-tolerance discipline policy.

Anna Patterson says she watched in disbelief Wednesday as her 10-year-old great-grandson was hauled away from Emmott Elementary to juvenile detention.

"I was really hurt," she said. "I couldn't believe that they were going to, you know, take him down. I was really hurt."

Cy-Fair ISD says Darrin Banks caused chaos inside his classroom. They accuse him of vandalizing school property. A district spokesperson also says, "Assaulting a public servant is against the law."

However she couldn't say if the teacher was hurt. Still, compare this incident to that which we reported at Cy Creek High School just a day ago. A student there was neither detained nor expelled, even though he allegedly shot another student on campus in the face with a pellet gun. The district tells us a pellet gun is not on a list of prohibited weapons in the student handbook.

Patterson doesn't see equal application of discipline in these cases.

"I would have thought that they would've been arrested," she said.

Patterson admits Banks has been suspended repeatedly from school. The school district meantime says there are "some inaccuracies in the information" Patterson is claiming. Privacy laws however prohibit Cy-Fair ISD from specifying what those might be.

Patterson says her great-grandson has ADHD and takes medication for it. The 10-year-old Banks remained in custody Thursday night at the juvenile justice center downtown. Privacy laws keep officials from telling us what charges, if any, he actually faces. A court hearing is set for Friday morning.
