Four suspects are in custody after a smash-and-grab at this Cleveland jewelry store.

  CLEVELAND, TX (KTRK) -- Four suspects have been arrested after what police are saying was a $20,000 jewelry heist during a smash-and-grab.

It happened early this morning at the Cleveland Jewelers on East Houston Avenue. Police say four men broke into the store and smashed a watch display case. We're told the men stole about 100 watches worth around $20,000.

When officers arrived the suspects sped off, but all four men were arrested after a short chase.

Thief steals $2,000 from SPCA thrift store in Freeport

Volunteers were in the back of the store on Monday when a thief walked off with a bank bag containing more than $2,000

  By Pooja LodhiaFREEPORT, TX (KTRK) -- It was a record month for a Brazoria County thrift store that supports the SPCA. But volunteers have nothing to show for their hard work after a thief made off with their profits.

Looking into their eyes, it's hard to believe anybody would want to hurt the cats and dogs looking for new loving homes.

"We live in such a caring community, that we expect the community to be a caring group of folks," said shelter executive director Jack Brown.

But one crook broke that trust on Monday. He allegedly broke into the SPCA thrift store and stole donations.

"He didn't just steal money from this store," said thrift store manager Harold Clem. "He stole all of our time and effort."

Harold says the store was closed and volunteers were in the back when somebody sneaked in through a back entrance and took a bank bag filled with $2,040 in cash. The money was the largest amount the thrift store has ever raised in a single weekend. The SPCA was already counting on using it to help fund its spay and neuter program.

"We can offer a low-cost spay and neuter procedure for as little as $20, and that's a $200 procedure," Brown explained.

The Freeport Police Department has identified a person of interest, but officers haven't been able to locate him.

"I'd like to tell him what a low-life sneaking thief he is, you know," Harold said. "I don't think he needs to breathe the same air that honest people do."

But Harold's wife, who also volunteers at the store, has a different take.

"I hope he needed the money more than the animals did," Billie Clem said. "Maybe he did."

The thrift store did not have any sort of security devices. They wanted to be able to give all the money raised to the animal shelter, but that may be changing, if they have to invest in theft-prevention devices.

Surveillance video of jewelry store heist released

  HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Authorities hope surveillance video will help catch the lone suspect responsible for a jewelry store heist.

On September 24 at around 10:15am, an unidentified black male entered the jewelry store located on the 22500 block of Tomball Parkway. Investigators say the suspect approached one of the victims at a display case, and drew a gun from his waist.

Threatening the victims with the weapon, the suspect demanded jewelry from the case. The victims complied, and filled a bag the suspect provided with valuables before surrendering it to the suspect.

The suspect left the store and was seen getting into the passenger side of a gold 4-door Saturn. A substantial amount of jewelry was taken during the robbery.

The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 30 years of age, standing around 6 foot 2, weighing approximately 180 - 200 lbs. At the time of the offense, the suspect wore a Chicago Bulls baseball cap, a black Chicago Bulls t-shirt, blue jean shorts and black tennis shoes.

The store's surveillance system captured the robbery on video.

Fire destroys clothing store near downtown

Firefighters say they were able to put out the flames as soon as they arrived and that they also saved their Union Hall in the process.

  HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A fire destroyed a clothing store north of downtown Houston early this morning.

Flames destroyed the 7-1-3 INC store on North Main near Henry just before 3am. The store is attached to the Houston Firefighter Department's Union Hall, but it was not damaged by any flames.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Police find man shot outside video store in west Houston

  HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Police in west Houston are trying to figure out who shot a man in west Houston overnight.

Officers found the victim outside a video store on Highway 6 and Memorial around 1am. He had a gunshot wound to the leg. He was taken to the hospital.

Police believe he was shot at another location and somehow ended up outside the video store. There are no suspects and the motive is unknown.

Faulty cash register may be to blame for store fire

  HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A Family Dollar store went up in flames in east Houston and firefighters say a faulty cash register might be to blame.

The fire broke out at the store on Federal near the East Freeway around 4:30am. When firefighters arrived, they had to break in the front door to put out the flames near a cash register.

Investigators say it looks to have been an electrical problem of some sort, but the fire is still under investigation.

ABC13 report leads to charges against two suspects in jewelry store theft

  HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Two men have been charged for allegedly stealing from a jewelry store after tipsters saw an ABC13 report.

On August 12, the owner of a jewelry store inside the Food Town Grocery Store at 2770 N. Sam Houston Parkway in north Houston told Harris Co. Sheriff's deputies that three black males came to his store, gained access to his showcase with a key and stole jewelry worth nearly $50,000, including 72 diamond gold rings, 108 gold rings and 75 gold bracelets.

The incident was captured on surveillance video. Court documents state that Undrake Delon Clark and Jody Tyrone Evans, along with a third unidentified male, were the alleged thieves. In the video, police say Clark could be seen removing keys from his pocket and trying to open the showcase while Evans and the other suspect were seen acting as lookouts.

Several attempts were unsuccessful and the suspects could be seen leaving, then returning with new keys and opening the showcase. Clark is then seen removing jewelry trays and loading them into a grocery bag being held by Evans.

Store owner Jacob Cho told Eyewitness News, "It was locked when he tried to steal it, so I had no idea they can unlock the jewelry showcase like this."

After that Eyewitness News report aired on August 20 showing the surveillance video of the suspects, authorities say they received numerous leads in the case.

Police say the store owner was able to pick out both Evans and Clark from a photo array, and that surveillance video of the getaway minivan is possibly the same make and model as a Chevy Venture Van registered in Clark's name.

If you have information on the third unidentified suspect, you are asked to call the Houston Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.

Court documents show Evans has prior convictions for possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance in 2003 and robbery in 1994.

Thieves break into cars outside gun store

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- While customers were inside a Katy gun shop, they were the target of thieves outside of it -- and it was all caught on camera.

The store says the thieves were looking for guns Friday. But instead of buying them, they broke into cars parked outside of Tactical Firearms on South Mason Road. They may have thought they made a clean getaway, but now authorities have evidence that could help catch the criminals.

"So you've got the lookout vehicle pulling into the parking lot right now," Tactical Firearms owner Jeremy Alcede said, as surveillance video showing the parking lot rolls.

And not too far behind was a silver Nissan Altima with a suspected car burglar inside. The Ford Edge backs into a spot, allowing him to be on the lookout. The Altima starts scoping cars to burglarize.

First is a Ford pickup, but when he gets out and peeps through the window, there's nothing to steal. Eventually, a Toyota truck is broken into. Two guns are stolen from the back seat.

And the suspect is not done. He also shatters the window of a Suburban, stealing a briefcase.

Alcede says gun stores are under fire.

"I called AJC, since they are right down the road, advised them. That's when they told us that they were broken into already. And so we since then notified all the other gun stores to keep an eye out for these vehicles," Alcede said.

And they can also keep an eye out for the man in the white Ford Edge. He served as lookout. He actually walked inside, asked a question and left with a brochure. His polo hat and shirt are plain as day.

Alcede says gun stores seem like easy lifting for thieves.

"It's a target-rich environment. You know, if you come to a gun store, you're either coming to shoot or buy a gun," he said.

Now he's hoping someone recognizes the Ford Edge with Florida plates 702-LAI and the Altima with a Texas-style license plates.

As for the thieves, Alcede wouldn't advise them to return.

"If they come back it's going to end up differently," he said.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office is now on the lookout for the truck. And of course investigators would love to know who this man is our guy in the lookout vehicle who had to walk in the store.

Arrest made in deadly shooting at Family Dollar store

Houston police arrested and charged Dwight Richardson with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon.

  HOUSTON (KTRK) -- We have an update to a recent robbery at a Family Dollar store that included the death of a store clerk.

Houston police arrested and charged Dwight Richardson with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon. Officers are looking for a second suspect. Police accuse the pair of robbing a Family Dollar store at Bellfort near Bullfinch in southeast Houston on May 17.

There was a shooting during the robbery and officers tell us a bullet fired from a customer's gun killed the store clerk.

The District Attorney's office will determine if the case goes to a grand jury.

Store clerk fights back against armed robber

  SUGAR LAND, TX (KTRK) -- A store clerk fought back against a man who tried to rob him at gunpoint.

It happened late last night at the Corner Store Grocery on Eldridge near Greenway in Sugar Land.

Police say a man walked in with a gun and tried to hold up the store. But the clerk pulled out his own gun and shot the robber.

The suspect was taken to the hospital. His current condition is unknown. The clerk is not expected to face charges.

Questions remain unanswered in girl's rape at grocery store

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Houston police are investigating the sexual assault of a 12-year-old girl.

The girl claims a stranger grabbed her and raped her while she was shopping at a southwest Houston grocery store.

The attack happened more than a month ago, and the girl's family wants to know why no arrest has been made.

The Houston Police Department didn't want us to report this story, telling us they are at a critical time in their investigation and that publicity could hurt that. But the victim's grandmother hopes a story on Eyewitness News might lead to an arrest.

The victim's grandmother, who asked us not to reveal her identity, says she sent her granddaughter to Food Town on Wilcrest and Briar Forest to buy rice on March 24. It was at that grocery store inside one of the bathrooms where her granddaughter claims she was raped.

"You can't help but think, 'If I had drove to the store myself, it wouldn't have happened,'" the grandmother said.

The girl told her grandmother a man approached her outside the store and then followed her inside when she refused to grant his request for a hug. The woman says the man then followed the girl from aisle to aisle. He reportedly attacked when the girl went to get a drink of water near the bathrooms.

"That's when he came up behind her, grabbed her wrists, pulled her into the ladies room and put her in the stall and told her to take her pants down," the grandmother said.

The grandmother says the girl never said anything about the man having a weapon, but she said she was frozen with fear and that the man raped her in the stall, only stopping when someone else entered the bathroom.

"He told her to be quiet and he stood on the seat so you couldn't see his feet," the grandmother said.

The 12-year-old told her grandmother that, once the others inside the bathroom left, the man told her to go outside the stall and make sure they were gone. She said that's when she ran -- when she was away from her attacker and able to summon the courage.

She reported the attack to police that day.

The grandmother said the store manager showed her surveillance video from inside the store of the man stalking the girl. Police never released that video or any suspect description.

Neither Food Town nor HPD would share that video. They wouldn't say why other than that there is an ongoing investigation.

Food Town said it is cooperating with police.

Suspect caught in Zales jewelry store smash-and-grab robbery

Killrain Jarod Randolph is charged with theft in connection to a January jewelry store heist in which four suspects used sledgehammers to smash through the glass cases and steal the contents inside.

  HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Authorities have arrested one of four suspects wanted in connection to a January heist where suspects used sledgehammers to break through glass cases of a jewelry store in north Harris County.

Killrain Jarod Randolph was arrested on a theft charge Thursday by members of the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders and Fugitives Task Force after investigators identified him through DNA evidence left at the scene, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office. He is being held at the Harris County Jail.

Detectives say Randolph and three other suspects used sledgehammers to smash through the glass cases of the Zales Outlet store in the 5200 block of West FM 1960 on January 25 and took off with the jewelry.

Detectives are still working to identify the other three suspects.

Surveillance video released in sledgehammer heist at jewelry store

  HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Authorities have released surveillance video of a jewelry store heist this week.

At around 1pm Wednesday, three suspects dressed in black from head to toe came into the Zales Outlet at 5203 W. FM 1960 and began smashing the display cases with sledgehammers and started stealing jewelry.

The two employees and two customers who were inside ran to the back of the store and hid in a room until they thought the men had gone.

It's unclear how much merchandise the crooks made off with.

Investigators say the suspects fled in a white 4-door vehicle.

Video store damaged after vehicle slams into building

  HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Police responded to a report of a car into a building last night.

It happened at a Blockbuster on West Gray near Dunlavy near downtown. Investigators arrived and found a storefront window shattered. The window was boarded up a little after 11pm.

There's no word on the cause or any injuries.

Surveillance video of liquor store robbery released

  HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Dramatic surveillance video of an aggravated robbery in north Harris County has been released and police say the suspect is armed and dangerous.

David Leon Hamilton is charged with two counts of aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon. Police say on January 14, Hamilton entered the Greens Liquor Store on Imperial Valley when he allegedly pulled a gun from his hoodie pocket, reached over the counter and began shooting at the two victims. According to court documents, Hamilton then stole about $200 in cash from the register.

Court documents state authorities received information that Hamilton was the one who committed the robbery. Police say both of the shooting victims and a witness later identified Hamilton as the suspect from a photo array.

Hamilton, 26, has a long criminal record including assault, drug possession, theft, resisting arrest and unlawful carrying of a weapon dating back to 2002.

Police seeking gunman in liquor store robbery

  HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Houston police are asking for the public's assistance in locating a suspect wanted and charged in an aggravated robbery and shooting of two men at 17539 Imperial Valley about 3pm on Saturday, January 14.

The suspect, David Leon Hamilton, 26, is charged with two counts of aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon. Hamilton was last seen in the Imperial Valley and Greens Road area.

A 55-year-old male victim suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital. A second male, 62, also suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and was transported to Memorial Hermann Northwest Hospital.

Police say on Saturday, Hamilton, wearing a gray hoodie and black shorts, entered the Greens Liquor Store and waited in line with multiple customers in front and behind him. As Hamilton got closer to the register, the clerk was completing a transaction and opened the register. Hamilton allegedly pulled a gun from his hoodie pocket, reached over the counter and began shooting at the two victims. Police say he then reached into the register drawer, took an undetermined amount of cash and the fled the scene.

David Leon Hamilton is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to contact the HPD Robbery Division at 713-308-0700 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.

HISD police officer beaten at convenience store

Anthony Prince, 41, was off-duty and not in uniform at the time of the incident

  HOUSTON (KTRK) -- An HISD police officer was beaten in front of a gas station after he says he tried to defend a homeless man last night, police say.

Anthony Prince, 41, was not in uniform when he went inside the Shell station off the West Loop and Westheimer near the Galleria. Houston police spokesperson Jody Silva says Prince told them another man came into the store and started to give a homeless guy inside 'a hard time.'

Prince says he told the man to leave the homeless guy alone, and that's when the man got in the officer's face. The two men got into a fight that spilled out into the parking lot.

But police are trying to sort out differing accounts of the event. Silva says the homeless man told officers that Prince and the man fought after the suspect became agitated that he couldn't find a cashier to check him out. The homeless man reported that the cashier was in the restroom at the time. According to Houston police, the cashier happens to be Prince's mother.

Witnesses say the man had the upper hand in the fight and punched Prince several times before running away. Prince was taken to the Southwest Memorial Hospital and is listed as stable.

Police are still investigating the incident.

Macy's closing store at Mall of the Mainland

  TEXAS CITY, TX (KTRK) -- Shoppers looking for a good deal should look no further than Macy's at Mall of the Mainland in Texas City.

Today is the first day of its 10-week clearance sale.

The store is getting rid of its merchandise before the doors are closed for good.

The company says it is shutting down the store because it was underperforming.

Employees are expected to receive severance packages.

Suspect in Hallmark Store robbery linked to 15 robberies

William Thomas Tucker is charged with aggravated robbery

  SUGAR LAND, TX (KTRK) -- A Houston man has been arrested in the robbery of a Hallmark store in Sugar Land.

Sugar Land police arrested William Thomas Tucker for an aggravated robbery at Trudy's Hallmark at 15233 Southwest Freeway on January 2. Employees told police a man entered the store at 3:45pm, displayed a handgun and demanded money from the cash register. He left with an undisclosed amount of cash in a black pickup truck.

Police located the vehicle traveling northbound in the 12800 block of Highway 59. A brief pursuit was terminated due to traffic concerns at 59 and Loop 610.

Tucker, who police say is the vehicle's registered owner, was arrested on January 4. Sugar Land police say Tucker confessed to the robbery in Sugar Land. His bond was set at $50,000.

Tucker has also been linked to at least 15 similar robberies in the cities of Houston, Stafford and Webster.

'Merry Christmas' gunman robs convenience store

  HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Crime Stoppers and investigators with the Harris County Sheriff's Office are seeking the public's assistance identifying the suspect wanted for an aggravated robbery which occurred on December 19.

At approximately 3:55am on Monday, December 19, a man entered the convenience store located on the 12300 block of Eastex Freeway. The suspect immediately proceeded to the restroom located at the rear of the store.

According to Crime Stoppers, after exiting the restroom, the suspect approached the checkout counter. As the clerk asked the suspect if he needed help, he withdrew a pistol, pointed it at the two store employees behind the counter and demanded cash from the registers.

Fearing for their lives, the victims surrendered an undisclosed amount of cash to the suspect. As he exited the store, the suspect reportedly stopped, turned and said, "Y'all have a Merry Christmas."

While fleeing through the parking lot, the suspect pointed the pistol at several patrons, and left the scene on foot prior to the arrival of sheriff's deputies.

The suspect is described as a black male, 20-30 years old, 5'7"-5'9", weighing 150-160 pounds with a thin build. At the time of the offense, he was wearing a white thermal long sleeve shirt, a baseball cap, black pants and darks shoes.

In another case, on December 21, at approximately 12:35am, a man entered the gas station located on the 10800 block of Eastex Freeway. The suspect proceeded to a cooler located in the rear of the store, selected a beverage, and then proceeded to check out.

The female victim reports that as she began to ring up the suspect, he withdrew a pistol from his waistband and aimed it at her, Crime Stoppers said. He told the victim he was not paying for the drink, and demanded cash from within the register. After her life was threatened, the victim surrendered an undisclosed amount of cash. The suspect fled the scene on foot prior to the arrival of sheriff's deputies.

The suspect in this case is also described as a black male, 20-30 years old, 5'7"-5'9", weighing 150-160 pounds with a thin build. At the time of the offense he was wearing a white shirt, knitted watch-cap, black and white sweat pants and dark shoes.

Crime Stoppers investigators are not yet saying if these two cases are linked.
