HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A man was killed when he was hit by a car in front of a bar on Washington Avenue overnight. It happened around 1:40am Saturday on Washington near Patterson, west of downtown Houston.
Officers said Luis Alberto Vorante was leaving the bar at 4100 Washington. He stepped out into the street and was struck by a black Chevrolet Suburban traveling east on Washington, police said.
The roadway was closed in both directions for several hours Saturday morning while police investigated.
Witnesses told police the driver of the SUV was speeding and she fled the scene.
Investigators said they located the driver -- 19-year-old Rebecca Bowman -- a couple blocks away. She was taken into custody and charged with intoxication manslaughter with a vehicle and failture to stop and render aid.
Bowman was released from Harris County Jail on Saturday after posting $50,000 bail for each charge. She is due in court Monday.
