Officer injured chasing suspect in SW Houston

See it on TV? Check here.   HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A police officer was injured chasing a suspect in deep southwest Houston Saturday.

According to investigators, the officer spotted a man who was loading pipe from a construction area into his pickup around 11am Saturday. The officer tried to stop the suspect, but the man took off running.

The officer chased the man, but fell with a twisted ankle in the 14200 block of Bathurst at Simsbrook behind Bayberry Elementary School, officials said.

Police continued their search for the suspect, who was seen running south on Bathurst toward West Fuqua.

The suspect was found west of Buffalo Speedway, along Sims Bayou, and taken into custody. His pickup was towed.

The injured officer was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital for treatment.
