Sons sue hospital alleging ants in dad's larynx

  HOUSTON (KTRK) -- The sons of a Houston area man are suing the hospital where he spent some of his final days.

Keith and Kirk Simmons say their father Willie Lee Simmons was treated at Selection Specialty Hospital - Houston West in July of last year. Simmons was treated at the facility after his lungs collapsed.

According to the lawsuit, the family claims ants and gnats crawled in Simmons' trachea tube and into his larynx. The family claims gross negligence on the part of the hospital.

A spokesperson for the hospital says, "We can say, emphatically, that Select Specialty Hospital - Houston West keeps its rooms and equipment clean and sanitary."

The hospital spokesperson also says they responded immediately and appropriately to address any concerns the Simmons family had.
