HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Arson investigators say a nine-year-old playing with a lighter started a fire in southwest Houston. The fire broke out at a home on Stroud near Leawood around 9am. The Houston Fire Department says the boy was in a bedroom playing with the lighter when he accidentally lit the bedding on fire. He ran to the kitchen and told his mother, who called 911.
The mother, her son and other children who were inside that house all made it out safely.
The boy will be referred to HFD's juvenile Firestoppers program.
