Drug bust nets $500,000 worth of 'bath salts' and 'spice'

  SUGAR LAND, TX (KTRK) -- A drug bust in Sugar Land has landed one person under arrest, and police have nabbed about half a million dollars worth of drugs.

Sugar Land police spokesperson Doug Adolph says police received a tip about synthetic marijuana and so-called 'bath salts'. Officers set up surveillance on a home in the 1700 block of Coles Farm.

On Thursday, officers moved in and searched the home with permission of Saleem Boghani, who is renting the house. They say in the garage they found about 700 vials of bath salts and thousands of packets of 'spice', which is a type of synthetic marijuana. Adolph said the seized drugs have a street value of at least $500,000.

Boghani, who runs several convenience stores and gas stations, reportedly claimed he didn't know that he was selling narcotics. Boghani, 51, has been charged with possession of a controlled substance. Police say more charges may be forthcoming.

The investigation is continuing.
