Former Harris Co. judge staffer charged with fraud

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A former staff member of a Harris County judge is charged with fraud after allegedly stealing thousands of dollars from a private nonprofit organization.

A felony arrest warrant was filed Friday for Kirk Boudreaux. He is charged with misapplication of fiduciary property for between $100,000 and $200,000 -- a second degree felony with a possible sentence of up to 20 years in prison.

In a way, these charges are not entirely surprising.

Harris County Judge Ed Emmett fired Boudreaux back in March after he discovered irregularities in the books of the nonprofit HC Events Inc.

Boudreaux, 48, served as volunteer for the nonprofit, but he had a full time job in Judge Emmett's county office.

Prosecutors allege Boudreaux made numerous personal purchases and wrote himself checks from the nonprofit's accounts.

We tried contacting both the suspect and Judge Emmett on Saturday. Neither was available for comment.
