Rep. Miles pulls out win over Al Edwards

  HOUSTON (KTRK) -- State Rep. Borris Miles pulled out a win over his longtime opponent, Al Edwards, Tuesday night in the race for District 146.

Miles collected 57 percent of the vote to defeat his longtime rival,.

Earlier Tuesday, both candidates said they knew low voter turn out could either make or break things for them.

Representative Miles and his team say they've been pleased with the numbers showing a steady lead over Al Edwards all night. Both candidates are very well known in this community, and the political rivals have been going at each other for years over the District 146 seat.

Coming in to this race, Edwards was hoping his near 30 year's seniority would help give him the edge this time. On Tuesday night, he told Eyewitness News regardless of who comes out ahead, leaders still need to fight for issues like education and health care.

State Rep. Miles says he's been focused on results and his track record in the Capitol, and after learning of his double-digit lead over Edwards, he told us it appears the voters have spoken.

"Moving forward we are going to continue what we've started, and working with the state of Texas on police brutality, urban farming, and working to make sure we return the money back to HISD and to our schools across the country that were cut by the Republicans," Miles said.
