SUV crash catches building on fire

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A driver was arrested for drunken driving after she crashed her car into a building and it caught fire, officials said.

It happened on the Katy Freeway at Brittmoore around 3am Saturday.

Investigators said a Jeep sports utility vehicle crashed into a shopping center. The shopping center caught fire.

According to police, a woman was driving east on the Katy Freeway service road when she lost control of the SUV and went up the curb, knocking down an I-10 sign and then plowing into the front of a shopping center.

There were metal concrete posts protecting the front of the shopping center, which prevented her from going all the way through. The crash busted the front windows of an empty section of the shopping center and caught the building on fire, police said.

The Jeep was lodged on the concrete posts. Witnesses were able to pull the woman from the SUV before it burst into flames.

The woman was not injured. She was arrested for driving while intoxicated.
