Former jailer arrested for assault, impersonating officer

John Herbert Currie, 34, was charged with aggravated assault and impersonating a public servant.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A former Fort Bend County jailer has been arrested for impersonating a police officer while allegedly assaulting another man.

John Herbert Currie, 34, was arrested on April 16 and charged with aggravated assault and impersonating a public servant. According to court documents, Currie intentionally impersonated a Jersey Village Police Department police officer and ordered a man to get on the ground and claiming he was under arrest. The Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office says Currie worked as a civilian jailer, not a peace officer, and only for a short period of time before being terminated. Currie is currently out on $5,000 bond and due in court on May 9. (Copyright ©2011 KTRK-TV/DT. All Rights Reserved.)
