AP  GALVESTON, TX -- The official tall ship of Texas could be getting a floating neighbor.

The Galveston County Daily News reports owners of the replica tall ship HMS Bounty are considering berthing the vessel in Galveston from November to April.

The Wharves Board of Trustees, which governs the Port of Galveston, on Monday approved a $450 monthly rental deal.

The Bounty was built in 1960 by MGM Studios for use in the movie "Mutiny on the Bounty." It's now owned by The HMS Bounty Organization LLC, which has been seeking a winter port. The vessel is mainly used as a tourist attraction for tall ship events around the world.

Galveston is currently home to the 1877 tall ship Elissa, which is also listed as a National Historic Landmark.

Plane makes emergency landing in downtown Conroe

Conroe police say this plane made an emergency landing on the streets of downtown Conroe on Tuesday night Conroe police say this plane made an emergency landing on the streets of downtown Conroe on Tuesday night

CONROE, TX (KTRK) -- A plane made an emergency landing in the streets of downtown Conroe, according to the Conroe Police Department.

The incident happened at around 9:50pm Tuesday at 6th Street at Davis.

The pilot has less 100 hours of flying time and has only had her pilot license for about three months when she came face to face with an emergency no pilot ever wants to see.

Officials say 22-year-old Sarah Chantal Rovner took off last night from West Houston Airport on assignment with the Civil Air Patrol. About six miles out her plane lost power.

At first Rovner hoped to glide back to the airport, but the plane was not going to make it. So Rovner decided to land on East Davis Street in Conroe. Once she touched down Rovner's plane hit a small power line, then after turning onto 6th Street the plane knocked down a sign. The wing was sheared off after she moved out of the way of an oncoming car.

"The one thing that I would say is that I'm looking forward to flying with her," said Lt. Col. Bob Beeley with the Civil Air Patrol. "She is an excellent pilot. She did a good job. She did what she was trained to do."

The plane belongs to the Air Force and will be turned over to the insurance company. Investigators still don't know why her engine lost power.

Slain woman's husband makes plea to find killer

PASADENA, TX (KTRK) -- Police say they do not have any leads yet in connection with the apparent murder of a Pasadena woman whose body was found Sunday morning. She was found along Vince Bayou on Queens Road near South Shaver.

Edlyn Villegas Munoz, 36, was a mother of seven, the youngest being just two years old. Police say a passer-by found her body under an overpass before 11am. Investigators say she was nude and had been brutally beaten.

We talked to her grieving husband, Camilo Zermeno, Monday morning. He says he and his wife had been at a nearby strip club where he works until about 3 or 4am Sunday morning when they got into an argument.

He tells me he then left and walked home. Zermeno says friends told him his wife followed him on foot a few minutes later. But no one who knows Villegas Munoz can say what happened to her after that.

Her husband is devastated and is hoping someone remembers seeing something that will help catch whoever killed her.

"He doesn't have a heart," said Zermeno. "Whoever, I hope you rot in hell. You took my momma, my babies' momma. She was everything to me. She was my life. Now she's gone."

Zermeno says he's struggled to explain what happened to his children. He says his wife had been a full time student, just graduating from San Jacinto College. She was planning to pursue a career in real estate.

If you have any information that might help police in this case, you can call Crime Stoppers. That number is 713-222-TIPS.

Cancer survivor makes full circle

See it on TV? Check here. HOUSTON (KTRK) -- We have a follow up story that's been 10 years in the making, catching up with a young woman who caught the hearts of so many.

It was fall of 2000 when we first did a story on then 12-year-old Shelby Robin. She was a cheerleader for the Branch Crossing Junior High football team. Robin's story was and is one of strength, courage and maturity. You see, her dream had always been to be a cheerleader. But in January 2000, that dream was threatened when she learned she had bone cancer in her leg. Four months later, the night before the cheerleading squad was announced, Robin learned she would lose that leg from the knee down. "I was just stunned. It just kinda hit me really hard," Robin said in 2000. "One tear, then I knew what I had to do and I told my parents from here on out, I'm going to be positive and I'm not going to look back." After shedding that one tear, Robin had the surgery in May. Three days later, she was released from the hospital, and that fall, she had her prosthesis, her wig, cap and smith and was living her dream despite it all. A year and a half later, Robin went on the trip with the Sunshine Kids to New Orleans Mardi Gras. She went as a senior Sunshine Kid to talk with the younger children suffering from cancer and try to help them get through it. "Sometimes, we would just kinda congregate in one room, kinda have a little party within the Sunshine Kids, and we would just get to talking about everybody's situation, what everybody's gone through and stuff like that, just share and I think that helped everybody," Robin said. Robin also took part in competitive cheerleading -- prosthesis and all. She's kept very busy and never looked back. Now, it is 11 years after we first met robin. She's 23 years old, and she's back at MD Anderson Hospital -- as a nurse to children with cancer. Robin graduated from the University of Texas as an oncology nurse and she knew there was only one place in the world she wanted to be. "This was the only option for me," Robin now says. "I'm so passionate about it. I feel like I'm doing what I was meant to do, and going into something like oncology, where else is a better place to do it but MD Anderson?" Robin is treating children on the very same floor she was on at age 12, and some of the children are even in the same room. "There are certain rooms that stick out in my mind, where I was told about my amputation, or the room that I was diagnosed in, and they look the exact same so that's a little weird going into those rooms and sort of getting those flashbacks," she said. Most of the children at MD Anderson are scared, but Robin brings them a unique and calming perspective. "I don't hesitate to let them know I've been in your shoes of if they're going through something especially hard," she said. "I think sometimes you can get to the point where you're so deep in it that you don't really don't see the light at the end of the tunnel, so that's where I take my opportunity to let them know, hey I've been there and when I say I understand -- I understand and know that it's going to get better and life will get normal again; life will go on." Life has gone on for Robin -- giving back, caring and healing. She was and is one very special young lady. (Copyright ©2011 KTRK-TV/DT. All Rights Reserved.)

Local company makes $1M payment for former Navy site

AP  CORPUS CHRISTI, TX -- A Houston company has made a $1 million down payment as it plans to redevelop ex-Naval Station Ingleside.

Canyon Supply and Logistics seeks to create an offshore oil service complex at the former Corpus Christi-area military installation at a cost of nearly $76 million.

CEO Larry Ramming said Monday that Canyon paid the money May 9, in advance of the May 13 deadline, to show that the company is ready to do business. The rest of the down payment, $24 million, is due Sept. 15.

Port of Corpus Christi commissioners on May 2 approved the sales agreement for the redevelopment, which could lead to more than 2,500 jobs. The site would be similar to an offshore oil service complex at Port Fourchon, La.
