Telephone chat line worker accused of kidnapping, raping woman

Tyler George, 21, is facing charges of aggravated kidnapping, aggravated sexual assault of an adult and theft. Tyler George, 21, is facing charges of aggravated kidnapping, aggravated sexual assault of an adult and theft.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A man who worked for a telephone chat line is accused of kidnapping and raping a woman he met after she called into the service.

Tyler George is facing charges of aggravated kidnapping, aggravated sexual assault of an adult and theft. Court documents state the female victim had just broken up with her boyfriend and was depressed. She says she was watching TV, saw a commercial for a chat line and called the phone number. The victim says she spoke to a man who said his name was 'Terrance' -- later identified as George, police say -- and made arrangements to meet the man in person at an apartment complex in north Houston on December 2 of last year.

According to court documents, the victim said she felt comfortable around George and spoke with him for a few minutes. She says she then told George she was going home and would call him later, then started walking to her car. That's when she says George came up behind her and put a gun to her head. The victim told investigators George made her get into her car, then drove to the back of the complex where he made her park the car. George then allegedly sexually assaulted the woman.

The victim told police that George made her drive to another location where he sexually assaulted her again.

Then George allegedly made the victim lay down in the back seat and threatened to shoot her. He got behind the wheel of the victim's car, drove the woman to a grassy area behind a different apartment complex and allegedly raped the woman there.

Court documents state that George then pushed the victim down a hill and kicked her into a bayou.

On December 11, George was arrested for driving the victim's car. The woman later picked George out of a photo array.

George, 21, has a prior conviction for deadly conduct in 2009.

No bond has been set in this case.

Sketch released of fake worker who shot resident

See it on TV? Check here. This suspect sketch was released of a fake worker who shot a League City resident after gaining access to his home This suspect sketch was released of a fake worker who shot a League City resident after gaining access to his home

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Authorities have released a sketch of a fake worker who shot a League City resident after gaining access to his home.

In the morning hours of Dec. 3 at approximately 9:20am, League City police say they responded to a residence in the 2800 Block of Carrera Ct. in the Tuscan Lakes neighborhood about a reported shooting. Police say a white or Hispanic male had came to the home dressed as a construction worker telling the homeowners he needed to come inside to check on the water pressure. The homeowners allowed the suspect inside, but became suspicious and then told him to exit the home.

A struggle ensued between the male homeowner and the suspect when police say the suspect shot the male homeowner in the leg. The suspect then fled the home and ran to a waiting vehicle driven by a white or Hispanic male, which left the area on Porta Rosa Ln.

The male victim was transported via LifeFlight to Memorial Herman Hospital. The gunshot wound appears to be non-life threatening.

The suspect is described to a light-skinned Hispanic male in his early 20's with a slender build, medium length dark hair, wearing a utility jacket, blue hat, and a utility belt. Likely left hand dominant. The getaway driver is also described as a light-skinned Hispanic male. The vehicle is a gray colored 2-door with a trunk (not a hatchback), with lightly tinted windows, similar to a Honda Civic or Honda Accord. It was also described as being about four to five years old.

League City police are asking any persons who might have information about this case to contact Detective Hammann at 281-554-1819. League City Police are also asking for anyone who lives in the area that has video surveillance which may have captured the incident to contact Detective Hammann at 281-554-1819.

The League City Police Department would urge all residents to check the credentials and obtain verification from the employee's business office of any worker who shows up for an unscheduled appointment prior to allowing them inside the home. If residents have suspicions about whether or not a person has legitimate business at their home they should immediately contact the Police Department.

According to Michael Huynh, City of League City Water Production Superintendent, Water Department employees will only be sent to a home to check on water pressure at the request of the homeowner. The city employee will then check the water pressure from the outside of the home. All city employees will be dressed in a city uniform to include a city logo and name on the shirt and will be driving a city vehicle with a city logo on the vehicle.

Officials warn residents of phony worker scams

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- The Harris County Fire Marshal's Office is looking for two different men who both posed as fire marshals to get into people's homes. A third man posed as a construction worker and conned his way into a home in League City, but that encounter turned violent.

The victim in the third case is expected to sit down with a sketch artist on Tuesday in an effort to help create a likeness that might help catch the person responsible.

According to police, a man posing as a utility worker knocked on the door of a home on Carrera Court on Saturday and told the homeowner he needed to come inside to check the water pressure. Investigators say once inside, the homeowner became suspicious of the man and asked him to leave. Detectives say the two struggled and the man shot the homeowner and fled.

"At this point we don't have any reason to believe he targeted them," said League City spokesperson Kristi Wyatt. "(There's) no evidence of that."

The homeowner was taken by medical helicopter to the hospital. He was treated and released. Neighbors say he is the type of guy who is very trusting.

"That's what made it so terrible," said neighbor Kristi Wyatt. "Someone who is just a good, genuinely nice person."

The suspect in the League City case is described only as a man in his 20's, slender build, wearing a blue hat, utility belt and jacket.

Impersonators are targeting other trusting individuals as well. The Harris County Fire Marshal's Office is looking for two suspects who have pretended to be a fire marshal in two separate incidents, which is a third degree felony.

The first incident happened on November 8, when a man impersonating a fire marshal went to the home of a woman on Swinbrook near Aldine Mail Route. The victim described him as a Hispanic male with average build, 5'9" to 5'11" tall, age 30 to 40. He did not rob the woman, just pretended to inspect her home and left when she became suspicious.

The second incident was on November 30 at about 3:45 pm, in the 9700 block of the Crosby Freeway in Crosby. This time a home was burglarized by a man the victim described as a black male 5'7" to 5'11", age 40 to 50. He was clean-cut, wearing a khaki shirt with a fake fire marshal logo, displayed a fake badge and he was driving a red Chevrolet truck with dual rear wheels and fire marshal lettering.

The suspect in that case said he was checking homes with gas cans stored near ignition sources. He stole cash from the victim.

The fire marshal's office will not show up unannounced for random inspections at homes and they say it is easy to verify who they are.

"All of our employees will have some type of official identification that will say police on it and have the officer's information on it," said Lt. Dean Hensley with the Harris County Fire Marshal's Office. "They can ask to see the person's identification. If they feel something's not right, they can always call 911 and say there's somebody at my house that says they're a fire marshal and I'm not sure if they are or not. They're flashing an ID at me that doesn't look official."

Officials say if you feel like the person isn't a fire marshal, he or she probably isn't. They add that while fire marshals do perform inspections at day care and other home businesses, they do not inspect private homes.

"We are not going to show up unexpected unless we are driving by and see something that would constitute an emergency," explained Asst. Chief Laurie Christensen with the Harris County Fire Marshal's Office.

Anyone with information can call the Fire Marshal's Office at 281-436-8000. Crime Stoppers is offering a $5,000 reward for information.

Fake utility worker shoots homeowner during robbery

LEAGUE CITY, TX (KTRK) -- Police say a man impersonating a utility worker shot a homeowner during an aggravated robbery in an upscale League City neighborhood.

It happened Saturday morning at a home in the 2800 Block of Carrera Court in the Tuscan Lakes neighborhood.

According to officials, a man came to the home dressed as a construction worker, telling the homeowners he needed to come inside to check on the water pressure.

The male victim was transported by Life Flight to Memorial Herman Hospital. Police said the gunshot wound appears to be non-life-threatening.

It was unclear if the gunman stole anything from the home.

The gunman is described as a white or light-skinned Latino male in his early 20s with a slender build and medium length dark hair. He was wearing a utility jacket, blue hat and a utility belt.

The getaway driver is also described as a white or light-skinned Latino male. He was driving a grey coupe with a trunk (not a hatchback), with lightly tinted windows, similar to a Honda Civic or Honda Accord. The car was also described as being about four to five years old.

Police are urging anyone who might have information about this case to contact Detective Hammann at 281-554-1819. League City police are also asking for anyone who lives in the area that has video surveillance that may have captured the incident to call the same number.

Driver accused of killing toll worker appears in court

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- The driver accused of running over and killing a toll booth worker appeared in probable cause court overnight.

Julie Little's bond was set at $30,000 and she was given another court date.

"Ms. Little, a warrant has been issued for your arrest for the felony offense of intoxicated manslaughter in a motor vehicle. You will hear the basis for the warrant when you arrive in court," said a court clerk.

Investigators say Little was drunk when she lost control of her car and hit Sheila Lindsey on the North Beltway Wednesday night. Tests proved Little's blood alcohol level was more than double the legal limit.

Driver arrested after worker fatally struck at toll plaza

See it on TV? Check here. HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A tragic accident on the Beltway as a custodian was just doing her job at a toll booth when she was struck and killed. One investigator said it's the most horrific scene he's ever seen.

The driver is now charged in Sheila Lindsey's death and is in jail. She was arrested just a few hours ago after Precinct 4 deputies released her overnight. They say they had no other choice but to let her go at that point. Julie Little, 39, was arrested Thursday afternoon on suspicion of intoxication manslaughter. Investigators say she was driving a black Camaro westbound on the North Belt near I-45 at around 11pm Wednesday night when she plowed into the concrete barriers near the toll booths. The car became airborne, striking custodian Lindsey sweeping up in one of the lanes. Lindsey, 48, died at the scene. "She took her away from a lot of people that loved her," said Debra Pitts, Lindsey's best friend for 34 years. "I'm destroyed. I'm disturbed about the whole situation, how it went down." Authorities say Little was taken to Houston Northwest Memorial Hospital for a blood test, which is mandatory under Texas law whenever there is a fatality. But Harris County Precinct 4 Constable's Office Assistant Chief Mark Herman insists they could not arrest Little last night he says because of a problem at the hospital with the machine that analyzes blood for intoxicants. "The machine was not functioning, was not working. We had no other recourse other than to release her after a certain point," said Asst. Chief Herman. He says the law didn't allow them to hold Little longer without those test results. When the test finally was done, Herman says her blood alcohol content came back at .165 -- that's more than twice the legal limit. Three other narcotics were also discovered in Little's system. That raises all kinds of question for those who mourn the loss of Lindsey. "Sheila was a nice, sweet, kind, wonderful person. Give you the shirt off her back," said Pitts. Our legal analyst says the Precinct 4 Constable's Office messed up. He says that driver should have been arrested last night and not allowed to walk out of the hospital after allegedly killing an innocent woman. "The deputy constable's position that I had no choice but to let her go is not logical, makes no sense and is not the law," said Joel Androphy, KTRK Legal Analyst. Androphy says constables could have done a number of things other than let Little go: take her to another hospital, for example, where the equipment to test her blood might be working. "He also bottom line could have arrestd her for a plain old DWI without any type of testing. Plenty of people get arrested even after they refused blood tests and breath tests. It's not a prerequisite to arrest someone that they take a blood test," Androphy said. Herman insists his deputies did everything by the book. He says a prosecutor in the District Attorney's Office told his officers that they had to in fact let Little go. The DA's Office says it never tells officers whether they can or cannot hold someone who is suspect. (Copyright ©2011 KTRK-TV/DT. All Rights Reserved.)
