SWAT standoff ends peacefully near downtown

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A SWAT scene near downtown Houston came to a peaceful end this morning. Police say a 25-year-old man shot at his wife and will face charges for the incident.

It started around 3:15am when the suspect started shooting with a pistol outside his home on Morris at Quitman after getting into an argument with his wife.

The man's wife went to a family member's house nearby. She was not injured.

When police were not able to make contact with the man, a SWAT team was called in to assist.

Police believe the suspect slept through the standoff, which lasted about four hours. He finally surrendered around 7:30am.

The man was arrested and faces charges for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
