HOUSTON -- A Puerto Rican man convicted of selling thousands of fake prescription drugs in Texas has been sentenced to nearly two years in prison. A federal judge in Houston on Thursday sentenced 41-year-old Luis Angel Garcia Torres of Patillas, Puerto Rico.
Torres in June was convicted of conspiring to traffic in counterfeit goods, causing the introduction of misbranded prescription drugs and causing the introduction of counterfeit prescription drugs into interstate commerce.
He was also convicted of trafficking in counterfeit goods, plus misdemeanor counts on misbranded drugs and fake trademarks.
The undercover investigation began in 2009. Investigators say Torres used the Internet to obtain and distribute counterfeit drugs for erectile dysfunction.
Torres remains free on bond as federal officials determine where he will serve his 21-month prison term.
