Pets affected by Isaac up for adoption in Houston

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- More pets from animal shelters affected by Hurricane Isaac are headed to Houston -- and they'll be up for adoption.

The Humane Society of Southern Mississippi and The Louisiana SPCA both reached out to the Houston SPCA asking to bring their adoptable animals to the Bayou City.

The Houston SPCA says 17 dogs, 4 puppies, 4 cats, 8 kittens and 11 rabbits from Mississippi, and 25 cats, 14 canines and 1 rabbit from the Louisiana arrived at their facility Monday evening.

Over the weekend, more than 200 animals, including some that were evacuated from St. Bernard Parish Animal Control Center, were adopted by Houstonians. The space freed by those adoptions will now go to house the new evacuees.

The Houston SPCA is located at 900 Portway Drive, Houston, TX 77024.
