House fire challenges Houston firefighters

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A home went up in flames in north Houston overnight, and firefighters couldn't get inside because the house was being used for storage.

The homeowner was sleeping outside in a trailer when his house on 34th Street near Bella Vista started to burn around 9pm Friday.

Firefighters say there was tons of stuff stacked inside the home.

When firefighters arrived, they tried to fight the flames from inside the home, but couldn't get in because of all the materials inside.

Burglar bars on the windows presented another challenge for crews as the smell of smoke sent neighbors running outside.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
