Four firefighters, two others injured in collision involving fire truck in east Harris Co.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Six people were injured in a collision that involved a fire truck in east Harris County Friday night.

It happened at the intersection of Hollywood and Brown Wood Street.

According to officials with the Cloverleaf Volunteer Fire Department, four firefighters were their way to run a few errands. They were less than a block from the fire station when officials say the driver of a black Dodge pickup slammed into the side of the fire truck, flipping the emergency vehicle over.

According to witnesses, the pickup truck driver ran a stop sign.

"The truck and come hit the fire department truck, and dumped over" witness Rene Vences said.

"It's horrible. I just --- my brother. They said he's OK," said Elizabeth Beaver, whose brother was among the firefighters involved in the wreck.

Officials had to extricate two people out of the pickup. They were both taken to Ben Taub with serious injuries.

Four firefighters also were transported to be treated for minor injuries.

Man arrested following alleged Craigslist caper involving stolen ATV

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A man has been arrested following an alleged Craigslist caper. Deputies say the man stole an all-terrain vehicle, then tried to sell it on the website for thousands of dollars.

A Cypress man has a cautionary tale about doing business on Craigslist. Not only did he buy stolen property, but he also lost the four wheeler he was trying to trade.

Jordan Griffith was looking to trade up for his 2006 Yamaha YZF four wheeler. So back in April, he logged on to Craigslist, and went to the ATV section, found this blue 2011 Kawasaki Teryx and made a deal with the seller.

"It was my four wheeler and cash for the side by side, and the deal didn't go through," Griffith told Eyewitness News.

It didn't go through because he was dealing with 26-year-old J'Gerrard Drik Thibedeaux. As of September 3, he was arrested and charged with burglary of a habitation for stealing the Teryx out of a garage.

Thibedeaux then posted it for sale on Craigslist. Without knowing, Griffith met him for the transaction. When he received a phony title, he knew it was a scam.

"At that point, they switched ATVs. As the victim was leaving, he was given the title to the ATV, and when he opened the envelope and found out it was a blank piece of paper, he knew something was not right," said Deputy Thomas Gilliland with the Harris Co. Sheriff's Office.

Griffith took the Teryx home and called the Sheriff's Office to find the rightful owner. They ran the serial number and Griffith contacted the owner.

"I called the lady the next day, and it was actually stolen out of her garage," he said.

To make matters worse, Griffith still has not gotten back his 2006 Yamaha YZF he was trading. He said he saw it also posted on Craigslist for a cheap price almost instantly and has not seen it since.

"You got to know who you are dealing with. If it sounds sketchy and too good to be true, than most likely it's sketchy," Griffith said.

The other thing that will leave your head shaking here is that investigators say Thibedeaux, the suspect, stole that Kawasaki Teryx from his friend's garage. Since he has a criminal history, he's being held without bond.

Wreck involving two big rigs shuts down I-10 in Sealy

See it on TV? Check here. SEALY, TX (KTRK) -- A fiery crash involving two big rigs had a stretch of I-10 near Sealy shut down for several hours Thursday. The eastbound freeway has now reopened after it was closed for more than four hours.

Police say the problem started around 11am Thursday after two semi-trucks hauling loads toward the Houston area collided. The impact caused a huge fire that torched one the 18-wheelers, burned grass nearby and filled the road with debris. From SkyEye 13 HD, you could see the fire shooting from wrecked big rigs on I-10 in Sealy. Truck driver Rick Wilson says he missed the crash by a few minutes. "We were back about a couple of miles and I could see the smoke, and I thought it was a house fire because it grew black and thick," Wilson said. Sealy police say the fire started fter two semis collided. One of the drivers was rushed to the hospital. We spoke with the other driver at the scene. "I was driving on the right, and somebody crashed behind me," said Richard Reyes. He says the impact from the crash has left him with pain in the head and neck. The fiery accident shut down a mile-long stretch of I-10. Hundreds of cars had to be diverted. And dozens of trucks drivers say they were left stranded for hours, because their rigs were too long to turn around. "Well, it's kind of frustrating. The stopping part is frustrating," said Wilson. It took several Hazmat crews to clean up the debris and toxins scattered along the highway. Truckers who just missed this wreck by a few moments say they are lucky it wasn't worse. "Well, the big problem is for me the thought that it could have been us," Wilson said. Police say they are treating the crash as an accident for now. The driver of the burned truck was rushed to the hospital with unknown injuries. The other driver was complaining of head and neck pain. Police say it appears both drivers will be OK. Questions surround investigation involving Patti LaBelle

See it on TV? Check here. HOUSTON (KTRK) -- We're learning new information about a shocking confrontation between a West Point cadet and famed singer Patti LaBelle's entourage at a Houston airport, as questions linger over how police handled the situation.

A man was punched and pushed to the ground, then taken to the hospital bleeding. In the end, no charges were filed, and at least one officer got a picture with LaBelle. We've learned police are now reviewing how officers handled themselves that night.

Sources close to the investigation say that right now there is not an official internal affairs investigation. Rather, supervisors over the airport division of Houston police are looking carefully at everything that went on that night. They're looking at the video, which, apparently a lot of other people may not have done until recently.

The surveillance video showing West Point Cadet Richard King, wearing a yellow shirt, being beaten up by Patti LaBelle's bodyguards has sparked a lot of questions as to why no criminal charges were ever filed in the case.

KTRK Legal Analyst Joel Androphy said, "He didn't have any type of weapons, he's waiting at the luggage area -- it's shocking to see what happened there. What's even more shocking that police didn't do anything about it."

Now that the video has been made public, HPD says it is conducting an internal review. Police sources tell us they are evaluating why the initial report listed King as the suspect, and why, after he was carted off in an ambulance with blood everywhere, that Houston police officers were seen taking photos with LaBelle.

"If they're taking a picture with Patti LaBelle, who is a witness to this case, along with her three bodyguards, that is improper behavior," Androphy said.

What happened outside the airport terminal will have a lifetime of implications for this young man. On Friday West Point told Eyewitness News that King will be leaving the academy without graduating. His only option is to go through a mentorship program where he will have to spend at least a year serving as an enlisted member of the military, before he can reapply for admission

"It was vicious. It was brutal," said King's attorney John Raley. "It was one of the worst things I've ever seen."

LaBelle's representatives are aware of the lawsuit, but so far they have issued no comments. Houston police won't say whether their officers even looked at the video before making the report -- a report that may have derailed a young military career.

Androphy said, "It's hard to believe the officers picked up the phone to call West Point. There's no reason to do that at the time."

It's uncertain who actually notified West Point. The lawyers say it was someone within the Houston Police Department. HPD says they don't believe that is the case.

It does, however, appear that the initial officer who made the report ever looked at the video, and that is something that is being scrutinized.
