HOUSTON (KTRK) -- There was a deadly house fire in west Houston overnight. The home's burglar bars made it tough for firefighters to reach the victim inside.
Crews got the call about the fire at a home on Jarvis at Richmond just before 2am. They arrived to find the home engulfed in flames.
Firefighters had to cut the burglar bars to get inside the house. Fire crews found the victim on the floor by a back bedroom. She was taken to the Memorial Hermann Hospital where she later died. The woman in her mid 40s hasn't been identified.
Authorities say the male homeowner was there, but was not injured. It's unclear if he came home and found the fire or was home and got out in time.
Investigators determined the fire started in a front bedroom of the home. Arson detectives are looking into the cause of the fire.
