Police investigate death of 3-month-old infant in southeast Houston

  HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Houston police are investigating the death of an infant in southeast Houston.

Police say the three-month-old baby died at about 11:30pm Thursday at a home in the 7700 block of Glenvista. The boy's father fed him a bottle and then put him to bed at about 11pm.

The father woke up approximately 15 minutes later and says he found the baby cold to the touch and not responding. Houston Fire Department Paramedics were called to the scene and conducted CPR on the baby before transporting him to Texas Children's Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The baby's identity and cause of death are pending autopsy results by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. The police investigation is pending autopsy results.

Infant killed in accident at SW Houston apartment complex

  HOUSTON (KTRK) -- An infant was killed in a wreck at a southwest Houston apartment complex.

Houston police are investigating the fatal traffic accident at 9501 South Sam Houston Parkway about 9:50am on Wednesday.

The female driver of a white Ford F-150 pickup truck was waiting for a family member at a controlled access gate of the Casa del Sol Apartment complex. As the baby's mother walked toward the entrance holding the infant in her arms and with an access card in her hand, the truck suddenly accelerated and struck the gate, according to police. The gate swung open, knocked the child's mother backward and the baby was thrown directly in front of the vehicle, where she was struck by the right front tire.

The victim, a four-month-old girl, was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital, where she later died from her injuries.

Police say their investigation determined the driver was not impaired. No charges have been filed at this time, as the investigation is continuing.

Man accused in death of girlfriend's infant

Sean Michael Wheeler, 23, has been charged with injury to a child.

  CHANNELVIEW, TX (KTRK) -- A Channelview man is facing a felony charge, accused of fatally injuring his girlfriend's baby boy.

Court documents state that on Wednesday, a mother and her boyfriend brought her five-week-old baby boy to San Jacinto Methodist Hospital in Baytown. The baby was unresponsive and medical staff attempted CPR, then pronounced the child dead. Doctors called police after they noticed numerous bruises on the baby's body.

The baby's mother told a deputy with the Harris County Sheriff's Office that her boyfriend, Sean Michael Wheeler, had agreed to watch the baby while she slept. She said Wheeler, who is not the baby's father, told her he was taking the boy for a ride in the car to help put him to sleep. When they returned a short time later, she said the baby wasn't breathing and was cold and limp, so she rushed him to the hospital.

Wheeler told authorities that while he was driving around with the baby, the child would alternately cry and then stop. He said he stopped to check on the baby once when he became quiet and noticed the child was breathing funny, so he returned home, got the baby's mother and they drove to the hospital.

Wheeler reportedly denied injuring the baby in any way, and claims he didn't shake him. While he told authorities he doesn't know how the baby got the bruises, Wheeler admits he was the only person with the infant when he stopped breathing.

Wheeler's attorney, Eric Dick, contacted ABC13 Eyewitness News and said, "He's completely innocent. He didn't do it. He didn't do anything wrong."

An autopsy showed the baby suffered bleeding on his brain and a blunt force injury to the back of the head. His death was ruled a homicide.

Wheeler, 23, has been charged with injury to a child. Bail has been set at $50,000.

Toddler, infant killed in Harris County crash

This SUV collided with a pickup and flipped. Two children died in the accident. The cause is under investigation.

  HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Two young children died in an accident in northeast Harris County on Sunday.

The accident happened around 2pm on Beltway 8 at Garrett Rd.

Harris County Sheriff's Office deputies said a Chevrolet Suburban and a Chevrolet Colorado collided after the traffic signals were out and neither driver stopped at the intersection. It should've been treated as a 4-way stop.

A three-year-old child and an eight-month-old baby were both killed in the crash, according to officials.

Two other children, ages two and four, were taken by LifeFlight to an area hospital for treatment.

Investigators said there were about a dozen or more people in the Suburban when the accident happened.

Garrett Rd. was shut down both ways, and Beltway 8 at Little York was also closed. Traffic was backed up for miles as deputies investigated the scene.
