Astros to announce new manager in press conference

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- The Astros organization is expected to announce its pick for manager this morning.

A press conference is scheduled for ten. Owner and Chairman Jim Crane, GM Jeff Luhnow and team President George Postolos will all be in attendance.

Nationals third base coach Bo Porter is expected to get the job. The Houston resident should finish the season in Washington before taking up the reins. The Astros' young team has struggled but management hopes to be in contention in a few years.

"We don't want to hire someone to just be here for one phase of it. We want someone who can grow with the players, grow with the organization and help us sustain success once we get there," said Luhnow.

Management had a short list of nine possible coaches.

Former apartment manager accused of stealing rent money

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A former apartment manager is accused of stealing more than $118,000 from tenants' rent money.

Rosalinda Herrera was working as the manager of Mapletree Gardens Apartments in 2009, according to court documents, when the management group over the property discovered a theft. They confronted Herrera and fired her, and she reportedly admitted taking the money and agreed to repay about $9,000.

Court documents state that Herrera reportedly would offer unauthorized discounts for rent payments that were made in cash or paid in advance. She was said to have changed money orders into her own name, and allegedly made adjustments in the accounting books to cover up the thefts.

When cleaning out Herrera's office, the manager for the property management group reportedly discovered cash and money orders that corresponded to rent payments deposited into Herrera's personal account totalling more than $118,000, court documents state.

Herrera, 34, is charged with aggregate theft, a felony charge. Bail in the case has been set at $104,000.

Restaurant manager assaulted by suspects

Two white male suspects are wanted for aggravated robbery after attempting to rob a Webster restaurant.

WEBSTER, TX (KTRK) -- Police are looking for a pair of would-be crooks who tried to rob a restaurant in pre-dawn hours.

On Wednesday, March 30, at approximately 5am, two white males attempted to rob a Chuy's restaurant located at 20975 Gulf Freeway. According to Crime Stoppers, the restaurant store manager reported hearing someone banging on the office door. He looked through the window of the door and noticed two men demanding he open the door.

The victim opened the door, and one of the suspects hit him in the face. The suspects began yelling at him and demanded that he open the safe. The victim stated that one of the suspects pointed a black semi-automatic gun and threatened to kill him, according to Crime Stoppers.

The complainant frantically tried to open the safe, but he reportedly could not remember the combination. This enraged the suspects, and they began to assault the suspect by punching him throughout his body, officials say. The suspects left with no money or items since the victim could not open the safe.

Anyone with information regarding the identity of either suspect is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
