HPD to introduce new technology to replace BAT vans

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Houston Police Chief Charles McClelland and the Harris County District Attorney Pat Lykos will announce Wednesday morning a new strategy to catch and prosecute drunk drivers.

It turns out the agency will eliminate the embattled blood alcohol testing units, or BAT vans.

The mobile BAT vans have been the source of a grand jury investigation after a 13 Undercover investigation revealed equipment flaws in the vans could produce inaccurate results for drivers being tested for DWI.

A grand jury is trying to determine if the DA's Office knew about the problem and failed to act.

Today HPD will announce a plan to buy new technology. Stay with Eyewitness News and abc13.com for the latest on this story.
