Boy, 3, dies in Magnolia mobile home fire

  MAGNOLIA, TX (KTRK) -- A fire in Montgomery County killed a three-year-old boy Saturday morning.

It happened just after1am at a 30-foot travel trailer mobile home in the 19000 block of Todd Road near F.M. 1488, west of Magnolia.

The Montgomery County Fire Marshal's Office says three-year-old Dakota Myers and his 10-year-old cousin were asleep. Dakota's mother tells us she was next door when the home burst into flames.

As soon Dakota's mother and her neighbors smelled the smoke and saw the flames, they tried to save the children, but the flames were too intense.

Neighbors reportedly ran into the home. Some of them even burned themselves while trying to save the boys.

"Several attempts were made, not only by firefighters, but by family members and friends to get in the travel trailer, but not successful," said Scott Burlin, Assistant Fire Marshal in Montgomery County. "Too much fire and flame."

The 10-year-old managed to get out of the home, but the three-year-old did not.

Firefighters eventually got the blaze under control and gained entry, but Dakota was already dead. His body was found in a back room.

The 10-year-old and another adult at the scene were treated for smoke inhalation.

There is no word yet on what started the fire, but investigators say the home was not equipped with any working smoke detectors. Working smoke detectors are especially important in homes with small children or elderly residents, officials say. Children under four and the elderly are four times more likely to die in a home fire than the average person, according to the fire marshal's office.

The boy's grandmother, Sheila Landreneau, barely had words Saturday to describe the family's loss.

"Koty was special. Very special," she said. "He's going to be missed so much. I just can't believe something like this happened to him, because it's not right."

Man shot through door of mobile home

  HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A Houston man remains in the hospital after police say he was shot through the door of his northeast side home.

Police say around 4:30am Monday, someone opened fire on the man's mobile home at Alderson and Lathrop. The suspect was reportedly spotted driving back by the crime scene while police were there, but an arrest has not been made.

At last check, the victim was in serious but stable condition.

Mobile home goes up in flames

  HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A fire lit up the night in southeast Harris County early this morning.

Firefighters say an old mobile home went up in flames around 4am on the South Beltway near Blackhawk.

The home was empty but filled with trash. Firefighters had to call pumper trucks to bring in water because there were no hydrants in the area.

Woman, 3 children killed in mobile home fire

The remnants of a charred mobile home stand in Conroe where three children and one adult died in a fire

  CONROE, TX (KTRK) -- An early morning mobile home fire in Conroe killed a woman and three children and left three others injured, officials said Sunday.

The Conroe Fire Department responded around 2:45am Sunday to the 1900 block of 1st St. at Patricia Ln.

The mobile home was completely engulfed in flames. They found three victims outside who had escaped the blaze alive, but others were reported to still be inside the home.

Firefighters searched the only bedroom that was not on fire and removed two young children. Medics were unable to revive them, officials said.

Once the fire was pushed back, an additional search was completed and firefighters found the bodies of another child and an adult female.

The ages of the deceased children were reported to be from three to eight years old. Officials said the woman was about 27.

The three who were escaped the fire were an adult man and woman and a seven-year-old girl.

Fire officials said the man had cuts to his arms and smoke inhalation from his efforts to rescue the others within the home. The woman and little girl were both suffering from smoke inhalation.

They were all transported to Conroe Regional Hospital for treatment. According to authorities, the man and woman were in stable condition. The child was moved to Hermann Hospital with breathing difficulties, officials said.

It took firefighters about two hours to get the fire under control. They are currently investigating the cause.

Autopsies were ordered for the deceased. Their names were not released, pending notification of next of kin.
