CLUTE, TX (KTRK) -- Authorities are investigating a mystery after a woman was found dead at the wheel of a car submerged in a pond. At about 8:15am Monday, police in Clute were called to a nursing home in the 600 block of Plantation at Brockman, where a car had been spotted in the pond behind the business. The Clute Police Department dive team recovered a woman's body from the driver's seat of the car. An autopsy was performed by the Galveston County Medical Examiner's office, and the woman was identified as 42-year-old Padmaja Kudumula.
The circumstances surrounding Kudumula's death are a bit of a mystery. Police say there was no suicide note in the vehicle, and there were no signs of foul play. However, they aren't sure how the woman ended up in the pond, since there is no public access.
An investigation is underway.
