Local teen donates 1,026 books to libraries in Africa

See it on TV? Check here.   SUGAR LAND, TX (KTRK) -- A Sugar Land girl today shipped off more than 1,000 books she collected to start a library in Africa.

Diya Salian, 13, mailed off 1,026 books donated by family, friends and local elementary schools. Salian told us she also raised the $500 it cost to ship the books to Malawi in Africa. "I don't just plan to make this one library. I really want to make 10 or 15 more in the next four years of my high school life," Salian said. Salian got the idea from the African Library Project which has sent 683,000 to 639 libraries in Africa. Salian plans to organize more book drives through the African Library Project website.
